Meles Zenawi is dead
By Abebe Gellaw
The decision to report that Prime Minister Meles Zenawi is dead, according to reliable sources, has never been easy. It was two weeks ago that we received the news from highly credible sources in Brussels. Our sources that want to remain anonymous as they were not authorized to speak to the media on this sensitive matter told us that the International Crisis Group (ICG) concluded that Mr. Zenawi was deceased. Headquartered in Brussels, with offices around the world, ICG is the leading independent think tank on conflict prevention and resolution around the world. It was hard to ignore information from such a highly reputable international organization.
As journalists we tried to investigate and verify the tip meticulously before we decided to broadcast the news. To be fair to the facts, we have also
scrutinized the conflicting and contradictory information coming out from the ruling TPLF clique. We have examined not only the statements and stories put out for public consumption by the TPLF, but also their conducts that tell their own stories.
As Meles Zenawi’s 21-year tyrannical rule has surely come to a screeching halt, the TPLF proved to be a heap of mess without its chieftain. Ethiopia appeared to be leaderless and cheerless. In the absence of its head, the regime appeared to be decapitated, incapacitated, incoherent, disunited, disorganized and disoriented. This is typical of a one-man regime unlike institutionally sound democratic systems (like Ghana) that cannot be easily shaken by the death or absence of one man. Like an untrained ship crew with no captain in sight, the ruling elite seem to be at a loss for direction in the face of a gathering storm.
Look no further than the contradictory statements being issued by the high priests of the ethnic front on the well-being and whereabouts of Mr. Zenawi. While rumors are abounding on the death of the dictator, none of the officials has come out with a convincing explanation where the big man is.
“He is resting from exhaustion… He will be back in ten days…. He is in hospital….No, he is on holiday…. He is in town…No, he is in Europe… No, no, no…he is relaxing in America…,” TPLF officials told the public in the past two weeks. But Zenawi is nowhere to be seen. He was neither in the palace nor in his rubber-stamp parliament making and unmaking laws. And yet, TPLF’s creative stories change within hours and each weird story adds more fuel to wild speculations and rumors.
After the May 18th incident that became a turning-point in the tyrannical life of Mr. Zenawi, he was not seen in public for four weeks. On June 18th, he finally surfaced in Mexico City where he flew to attend a G20 meeting. Instead of quashing rumors about his well-being, the PR stunt unwittingly started a more serious discussion. He significantly lost weight and looked more like a ghost than the charismatic dictator he once seemed. The Chinese state TV, CCTV, broadcast his emaciated image, which was recorded during his meeting with Chinese president Hu Jintao, proved the suspicion of so many people. That was followed by a photo opportunity with Mexican president Felipe Calderon. It was another flop. He looked haggard, tired and gravely ill. The effort led by Berhane Gebrekirstos turned out to be a PR disaster.
On July 15th the newly-formed Ethiopian National Transitional Council (ENTC) issued a press release declaring the passing away of Mr. Zenawi. The news was received suspiciously. Some people questioned the motive of ENTC to declare the death of Zenawi. In fact, those of us in the news media also felt that ENTC should have passed the information to the media for further investigation. In any case, ENTC attracted more attention on the mysteries surrounding Zenawi’s puzzling health and final destiny spurred heated debate among Ethiopians across the world.
On July 14, 2012 Zenawi reportedly passed away after suffering a few weeks of agony and pains at St-Luke University Hospital in Brussels. The news was received with mixed emotions. While most Ethiopians welcomed the departure of a brutal tyrant that has caused so much pain and suffering on millions of Ethiopians, the news upset the TPLF camp. “Liars! Liars! Liars!..,” cried out camp TPLF without producing any evidence to disprove the news.
For a few days, TPLF chose to be quite. Finally, it broke its silence via the Voice of America. On July 18, Sebhat Nega appeared on VOA Amharic service and told the apprehensive public that Zenawi only suffered a minor illness. He said he was somewhere in Europe getting medical care. According to Nega, who was widely believed to be the mentor of the former dictator, in the absence of Zenawi the “democratic institutions” were working smoothly. Until the chief comes back, according to him, the “deputy prime minister” is in charge. As usual, the old guard’s answers were deliberately vague. They raised more questions than providing any serious answers.
Crisis communication management needs skills and some touch of professionalism. So TPLF felt the need to bring out its topmost communication expert. Unfortunately, the “expert” is the least trusted and one of the most detested members of the ruling elite. It was unwise of TPLF to send out the minister of miscommunication to convince the public that Zenawi is still alive and kicking.
After cancelling his appointments with journalists a couple of times, Bereket Simon, came on July 19th to meet and greet local and foreign journalists. He was flanked by none other than Shimelis Kemal, who insisted all along that news on the illness of Mr. Zenawi was fabricated by ESAT.
Mr. Simon said that Zenawi was exhausted after working restlessly for over thirty years. So an unnamed doctor forced him to go on sick leave. He dismissed reports that he was gravely ill. According to Mr. Simon, the big boss suffered no serious illness but exhaustion that needed a break. He assured us that he would soon be in office after enjoying his holiday. He also contradicted Mr. Nega by saying that Zenawi is in charge of running the country. It appeared that the deputy was not the task of ruling the nation even if the boss is exhausted and took a sick leave.
Mr. Simon was also asked why the Prime Minister’s health and whereabouts have been shrouded in secrecy. According to the communication expert, this is something to do with the culture of the ruling party. He explained that since its days in the jungle, the ethnic front does not dwell on such matters. He gave little weight to rights of the public to know about the health or death of a ruler. Mr. Simon, who was visibly nervous and sipping a glass of water quite frequently, gave inconclusive and bizarre statements that failed to convince us that Zenawi was indeed enjoying his holiday in an unknown tourist resort.
Addis Fortune is a newspaper close to the ruling elite. It is an open secret that the publisher, Tamrat Gebre-Giorgis, is a close associate of the minister of miscommunication and other officials. On July 22, it published a front page story with a screaming headline: “Meles back in town.” The story, which the paper run as breaking news claimed: “A day after the Ethiopian government officially announced his ailment, Prime Minster Meles Zenawi came back to Addis Abeba, according to a credible source. The Premier came back to town on Friday evening, July 20, 2012, and he is recovering well, the source revealed to Fortune.”
Fortune’s publisher also told everyone that Zenawi is expected to surprise the public by appearing at a press conference. Apparently, the credible source feeding false information is none other than Bereket Simon, who probably thought that disinformation may work to manipulate public opinion. But the widely expected press conference where Zenawi would take center stage never materialized.
Former TPLF propaganda chief and publisher of Ethiopian Reporter, Amare Aregawi, is also very close to the ruling elite. He is widely believed to be a privy to TPLF’s top guns including security chief Getachew Assefa. He too had breaking news for us. Contradicting Addis Fortune’s “big story”, he had a different headline: “Meles on vacation abroad”.
The story dated 25th July declared: “Following the prescribed sick leave, Prime Minister Meles Zenawi is currently on vacation outside Ethiopia, The Reporter learnt. Sources told The Reporter that Meles is enjoying the sick leave after he was ordered to take time outside office to recover from his illness resulted from “over workloads for more than three decades.” What was even bizarre was the fact that Reporter told us that Zenawi was enjoying his “holiday” in the United States.
That was not the end of the story coming from officials sources. On July 28, Addis Admas, another paper linked to the ruling elite published an interesting interview with none other than the famous TPLF veteran, Sebhat Nega. The stories keep on changing. But this time, it came to a full circle. He told the paper that Zenawi is having a speedy recovery. “Where is the Prime Minister,” asked the journalist.
“He is in Europe,” he answered. “Where exactly in Europe?” queried the journalist.
“I don’t know exactly ,” says Sebhat Nega, who was supposed to be in the know.
Tyrants are supposed to be seen in full control. How is it that the most visible and domineering man in the last 21 year vanishes into thin air? He is Europe, he is back in town…No, no, no…he is on holiday in the U.S. Who should the public trust? This must be one of the worst disappearance cases ever known in the history of tyranny.
As a journalist who tried to sift fiction from facts, Meles Zenawi is not back in town, nor is he on holiday in America. As far as I am concerned, our sources at ICG are more credible. I admit that I have not personally seen a death certificate or the dead body of Ethiopia’s former dictator.
Based on the credible information we have received from Brussels, I am convinced that Meles Zenawi is dead. I do not believe that such reputable think tanks like ICG will get this wrong. For the record, ESAT never quoted ICG. It quoted anonymous but credible sources working at ICG in Brussels. We are aware of ICG’s Twit.
Unlike Aigaforum and Tigraionline’s claim’s ICG statement does not disprove the story that Zenawi is gone. The Twit in question reads: “Crisis Group is not in a position to speculate about the fate of PM Meles Zenawi, nor have we commented on it to date.” ESAT never relied on a speculation or comment from ICG. We only had the privilege to access confidential information held by ICG that conclusively claimed Zenawi was dead.
I personally challenge the TPLF high command to disprove this fact instead of fabricating conflicting and contradictory stories to convince us that he was alive and kicking. Though some TPLF officials may believe that Zenawi is a superman who can be in Addis Ababa, Europe and America at the same time most Ethiopians do no buy such a fantasy.
The Ethiopian people has a right to know the whereabouts of its ruler. This will help the people of Ethiopia to make critical decisions on the future of the country. Bring Meles Zenawi out alive or in a coffin for a final farewell. Then we will stand corrected.
Whatever the case, Meles Zenawi’s grip on power is over. The political dynamics has changed permanently with his long absence and the rise of competing forces for power and control. A vicious power struggle has already begun in earnest within the TPLF clique and its servant parties.
It is fair to say good riddance to a brutal tyrant that has tortured our people for over two decades…

Splendid journalism Abe!
The ball is in TPLF’s cliqui quarter back now.
so, is that we re gonna to believe he is gone?
We need more gallant heroes like Abebe Gelaw. His words were mightier than a sword and wounded fascist Meles Zenawi who caused several suffering to the Ethiopian people. It is no wonder if there are supporters either because of ethnic love or economic advantage they get from the looting. Hitler, Mussoloni, and Stalin had also supporters. No one tyrant will master to terrorize and control his people without the support of some evil individuals who has belly but not brain.
Abe, I have no words to explain for your systematically thorough investigation of the matter, and your boldly declaration of this myth to its close.
I am personally analyzed all available information and concluded that either Meles dead in the eve of 15 July 2012 or he has been incapacitated since then. However, the total balance of probabilities conclude that Meles Zenawi has died and gone for good. The shrewd behavior of TPLF is simply a myth and it is to buy time for their power struggle.
If anyone believes that Meles is alive, they must be in lack of normal brain to process one of basic information at hand.
Abe, you are the reason for this dramatic change of politics in Ethiopia in and you will be credited by the mass for your remaining life. You will remain our hero! I would like to say Congra to everyone who has suffered under the late dictator and I believe Ethiopia will emerge as one of the best democratic nations on the glob.
- He died; but still his Soul never rests – hated, despised… by so may of his subjects.
- He ruled a Country that he never called “My Country”.
- He governed down trodden people, he never clalled ” My Country people”.
What a foreign national we have had as a Ruler in our midst for our 21 years.
The Almighty Lord cuts him off. Jesus cares and never makes a mistake.
Praise the Lord.
I urge all Ethiopians to come out in full force and ask the definite whereabouts of the PM! I am talking about the diaspora!! Let the world know that he is “missing in action”! then international media outlets will be compelled to look into the matter and find out the truth for us! it is obvious that we are in limbo here!! even knowing the whereabouts of one’s own leader has become beyond us!!
So what? If he is gone or still alife, is our problem solved. As I see it his departure is not going to solve our problem. We have a big problem. We are becoming a generation of talk no action. I do believe that we need a leader that unite us under one flag and a visionary. We are so divided that we are heading to a disastor. I do not wish that we become an other Mogadisho or Bagdad. We need to sit down and compromise our differense and brainstorm our problem. We have to go back and see what kind of mistake we made and learn from it and go forward. Divided Ethiopia is an other Bagdad or land of narrow minded leaders no good for their subject . We have to stand up togather & and answer to our nation and pass the freedom torch to the next generation Let ask our self where we are going if we keep our self to be a victim to the so cold leaers that their own agend is to suck our blood. We have to do it our self in stead of crying for help. Our battle is not by becoming website warrior instead in our land “Ethiopia”.
Long live united Ethiopia”
He did his homework of dividing the people of the country he hates too much . On one will come to one united country easily at this time. It will take time. It takes him and friends 38 years to finish the homework. Many people in different ethic group now think that Amara will snach the power and take us back to their way of life as usual. As we know, even Amaras could not stand together eventhough all Wayane and shabiya agents are claiming they come to make non-Amaras free from Amara domination.
Abebe,
I agree with ur analysis. Meles is gone for good. RIH.
Thanks for sharing us Abebe.but we need more information about his dead.!!!
thank you abebe, you are right, meles is dead, and the only way to disprove this is to bring meles and show us if he is alive, otherwise we hold the truth that meles is dead and joined gadaffi & hitler in hell.
u are really brave and profetional abe, have no word to express my felling for u .God bless u and keeps u safe!!!
Thanks for sharing Bro. Abebe.
CONGRA FOR ALL ETHIOPIANS THE DICTATOR PASSED AWAY.THE DICTATOR MELES ONE MAN SHOW OVER.THE STRUGGLE WILL CONTINUE~~~~!!!!
Thank you Abe. Well said. You are such a superstar!!!
Hallelujah, the prayers of 80 million Ethiopians, particularly Ethiopian mums, who have lost their beloved sons and daughters in the hands of this monstrous man have been at last answered. He may have escaped the verdict of the people but can escape the verdict of almighty God who has been watching his unparalleled evil and cruelty. However fortified you palace may be it can’t protect you from the ultimate call for the ultimate verdict.
God, keep on looking up on us.
Dear Abebe,
Thanks for continuing to be a voice for those of us who continue to suffer silently. One village idiot down and let us work not to end up with another, let us focus in building institutions
I would like to remind my brothers who aspire to be in the position of leadership to be mindful of what they wish for and have the wisdom to learn from not only their mistakes but also from others
After all there are 3 types of men
• The ones who will make the same mistake again and again and wish for a different outcome (Hate to admit it but speaks volume to my generation)
• The ones who will learn from their own mistakes and move on
• The ones who have the wisdom to learn from the mistakes of others.
Guys am Somali and I know more than anyone of you what conflicts and lack of loss of leadership are. This does not mean that I have PhD on this matter but I have born and grown up in a country with no central government and I have experience wars and disasters. My land has destroyed and my people has massacred by them selves and others. Now am remained a refugee in some where in the world where we have given this name (The stateless people).
So the only thing that I would like to tell you is that *SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING) I mean Bad leader/government is better than no government.
You all have commented that you had BAD 21 yrs but it is only me who is telling you that you had went through golden 2 decades that does not that Males was good leader but Ethiopia were growing this while my country is getting worst and worst.
Even if you are complaining yours look and think about the neighbors and what is going on Somalia your very close neighbor country.
Guys dont let Ethiopia go back to dark days… Dont think about the damages of Males think about the way forward.
I dont want to lose Ethiopia it is my second country…
Ibrahim Muhumed
You comment has truly touched my heart!
What do you mean old bad days?
We never have so bad days than the last 21 years of this racist junta in our long history. There were various problems throughout our histroy which is common in every country. If there is human being there is always some problem. We could not avoid problem, what we need is to manage probmes properly to the best interest of the majority and the country. But Ethiopia never ruled by a person who hate its name and its existance as a country like this triabal racist.
Hi Abe
I will recommend to publish this in amharic which clearly explain the issue with ICG. Thanks for sharing the info.
It is fantastic analysis based on factual phenomena and surveyed very well, I feel it is a clever idea. Thank you very much. But why ESAT webpage today temporarily unavailable?
Meles is dead, long live Meles!
Ato Abebe, will you bet on your child’s life that Meles Zenawi is Dead?! I do not wish any bad thing to happen to another human being, Meles included. But what your article is saying is that if he is not dead then where is he?…and the unfortunaet truth is, you do not know, I do not know, “they” do not know for sure!! so lets at least have the truth with us! do you know how many lies we hear everyday? we, ethiopians, have a very small “processor upstairs”…it will be difficult for us to function with all the lies around us…some can’t even process the truth…imagine the difficulty and have mercy on us! find the whole truth, nothing but the truth…
to all other fellow Ethiopians, lets start practising “civil” debate and not attack one another.having a difference of opinion may come from different level of understanding
Abe, It is unfair to name ICG in the same sentence as your credible source. If it is true, then your source is in danger of being found out and fired. ICG does not accept responsibility for your conclusion about whether he is dead or alive. For all we know, some Intern and IDG was playing a probablity and analysis game without all of the facts and generated a high probability based on low credibility.
I agree with your assertion that Ethiopian government is in gross violation of its responsibility to inform the citizens of Ethiopia. Indeed, they may just be buying time to consolidate power as you suggest. They are obligated to give a detailed report about the public servants who are supposed to be leading the country. Without this information Ethiopia is litterally falling apart like Humpty Dumpty.
However, it is equally irresponsible of you to publish assertions based on information you got from someone supposedly associated with the ICG. Is this person an Intern, an expert in probablity and statistics, the president of the ICG? And where is this information? If you cannot published what you recieved, then you are just irresponsibly spreading rumors. When a journalists gets information that is credible, they then go and find a way or two to back it up. Without a second and third bit of substantive evidence, you are being as responisble as Simon.
Ethiopia needs a way forward, but it must be based in responsibility, intellectual honesty and an abasence of the rhetoric of retribution and vengance. My humble opinion as a ferenj who loves Ethiopia.
Dear Matt,
Thanks for your comment on the issue.
Assuming that you are an American, can you imagine President Obama being out the public seen for a few days and the American people left in the dark? Your ferenj side may say ‘you are comparing apple and oranges’ but as you claim a friend of Ethiopia you understand the frustration Ethiopians have.
What Abe has done is a thorough analysis of the existing evidence and presented it an eloquent and persuasive way. His analysis and the conclusion he reached is highly credible.
We know how much Meles Zenawi wants to control everything and how much he loves to show up in big meetings. Considering this premise, he would have at least released his recorded speech to show that he is alive and still in charge. Moreover, his comrades’ inconsistent answers as to his condition and whereabouts prove the shock state they are in. Therefore, based on the existing evidence and lack thereof to the contrary, the probability that dictator Meles Zenawi is dead is about 100%.
Dear Matt, as a friend of Ethiopia and able person to make analysis and reach at conclusion, what is your thought about Meles Zenawi’s status?
Wogen Abebe,
You said it all, and there is nothing left for any reasonable mind to wonder or think about what has happened with the life or death of the dictator. The chaos we witness is the same chaotic affairs practiced for decades in the camps of TPLF. As familiar as we are, we should not be frantic as the people in TPLF’s camps. They are now trying to repair and join the pieces of the broken glass! I once heard Berhane Gebrekristos comparing Meles Zenawi to God. He should follow him rather than return to land of Ethiopians!
Even at his death, he left as if he designed it, TPLF in the state of total chaos. We saw the beginning and end of Meles and Co. on that fateful moment. That image remains imprinted in every one’s mind who witnessed it for the rest of his/her life. Generations of Ethiopians will retell and rewrite about it. Abebe, they will mistaken you for a Monk or an Angel sent by God of Ethiopia. Only us would think otherwise!
So, the brave Ethiopian, you Abebe and all your wogenoch (in exile) who were told by the dictator that their bodies would return to the mother land one by one in boxes happen to witness the order of the Almighty and we have witnessed who fullfilled the prediction first!
Meles is dead …tnx god ….i hope it will be more ….in ethiopia ….am so happy to hier thise nwes ….go to hell meles …..
Selam,
With all due respect for Abebe and ESAT, I find it impossible in this day and age to keep the death of a head of state secretly guarded for more than two weeks. It just doesn’t sound plausible. If the man was dead two weeks ago he is certainly buried. Does anyone believe his relatives in Tigray, his supporters, his colleagues, his comrade in arms who have been swearing by his name for two decades will let him be buried without recognition of his legacy, contribution, his life’s achievement, etc? Do you think his family would have him buried like a thief in secret (even though he is one)? The man is terminally ill, but dead for two weeks? I doubt it.
It would have been wise for ESAT to wait until a more reliable source was forthcoming.
Hey! His dead body is in a morgue, costing us $500/a day!!!
abe u should proud of yourself. u made history we love you we respect you
God bless you and Ethiopian!!!
Dear Abebe,
Once in a long time comes a brave person who stands tall amidst a storm of complacency and conspiracy, and dare tell the truth to the fullest no matter what the consequence might be.
We have seen such a peson lately, and that person is you, Abe. You are indeed OUR HERO!
You have indeed unparallel professionalism, unmatched skill in your analysis, eloquent argument, piercing voice and above all sincere commitment to the freedom of Ethiopians. I see you fighting till dictatorship is bygone and freedom reigns in the mountains, plains of Ethiopia.
Your fighting skills are getting even sharper by the day. Your analysis and conclusion in the above article is highly persuasive and credible.
We know how much Meles Zenawi wants to control everything and how much he loves to show up in big meetings. Considering this premise, he would have at least released his recorded speech to show that he is still alive and in charge. Moreover, his comrades’ inconsistent answers as to his condition and whereabouts prove the shock state they are in. Therefore, based on the existing evidence and lack thereof to the contrary, the probability that dictator Meles Zenawi is dead is about 100%.
Under this guys leadership Ethiopians have endured insults, killings, torture, disappearances, crushing poverty while a minority prosper, and suffocating freedom of speech and lack of information. Ethiopians deeply resent their land being given away Arabs, Chinese and TPLF. Ethiopians bitterly resent the desecration of monasteries (e.g. Waldiba) and mosques.
Although many might wish he recovers and faces justice in the Hague, I don’t see majority Ethiopians shed tears out of love for him. Considering all the crimes he committed, most Ethiopians would agree with Abebe in saying the tyrants death is a GOOD RIDANCE.
Abebe, you have made an interesting analysis based on limited dataset’’ to conclude that Mr Zenawi has died.
Personally I still do not believe that he is dead even if your arguments are partly solid. The problem comes with inadequacy of data sources available as the issue is held secretly.
One thing that makes me still puzzling is why the major world news outlets such as the BBC, CNN are avoiding reporting on the matter. In my view, it can be for two different reasons: one, the story is not true so are not interested, and second one is they want to avoid chaos in the country with untimely news release on the matter before internal arrangements reached how to go forward from here given the Ethiopian significance to the region. The latter case involves political decision from those respective countries to refrain from reporting, which is less likely.
Say if the second argument is to hold true, I am sure the US or UK or other governments are doing secretive discussions with both the current rulers in Addis as well as with the main oppositions both at home and in the diaspora on the future of Ethiopia. If this happened to be the case, it could not have been secretive especially for you for so long. You could have been the one to benefit first from such information as you seem to closely working with main oppositions and diplomats in the diaspora.
SO MY conclusion is Meles is not YET DEAD. I will be grateful if anyone can clear out my doubts with facts.
Bravo Abe. U did a wonderful job !! keep updating us.
Few months a ago the same rumors were spraed about eritrean president isaias Afewerki , the so called oppsition parties websites were boombed with the headline , isias afewrki is dead !! later the president showed up on the national tv and confrimed that he is alive and that reduced the websites credibililty from bad to the worst , so my point is it is very risky to publish nonconfirmed news escpecialy if they are sensitive issues as such.

Can’t agree more. It’s indeed splendid journalism and superb analysis.
while many people pray for the health of Meles in Ethiopia, in america, a number of people like yourself and your media organization pray for the death of Meles. whether he died or not, it is absolutely sure that he will not be the PM of Ethiopia here after. So now, do you think ato abebe, the diaspora oppositions here, who were once upon a time (most of them) were part of either haileselassie, derg or EPRDF’s sytem upholders, which now cry their asses off in america, can solve or even know what is going down at ground zero? I don’t think so. All of you here in america, have your american passport on your hand, and you try to get somekind of benefit from that poor nation, by playing as concerned individuals for ethiopia. Your ‘eroro’ came too late, and now you act as some hero here right in our faces? I think you have no right to do that right now. abe anchim ke cakeu lemegmet yemeterochi, zinna yemetefelgi mehoneshen ayteneshal……egna ethiopiyawiyanochu endayenesh……Gabriel endayayish……anchi tefram gondere…..

NAHOME : What can I say …? No comment but I am just amazed by your IQ level.
People should be proud of the results of their deeds, their efforts and accomplishments — not by what has come to pass by the act of God. Those who now feel heroic and happy by the presumable death of PM Meles Zenawi are indeed the living-dead. They never contributed to his death nor make any viable effort for him to give up power. Truly speaking, Meles himself was and is far better than the great many of those who posted comments with their broken languages, no exception to their stinky “English” — I call it English because it feels so. At least Meles has been ripping the fruits of his deeds as a fighter who had willingly opted to go through all the hardship of the struggle for “freedom”. He contributed immensely to the removal of another government at least.

lets unite now. lets have a reconciliation . Lets come together with positive mind. Lets not worry to our past and lets not revenge, lets forgive each other. Ethiopia is a diversity, a beautiful country. we have enough knowledge and wisdom of our people to develop if we have freedom.
according to some thinking and i believe it so. we should be positive and forget about the past. Lets go forward starting from today. lets remember Mandela’s (the greatest man on Earth) his trails of forgiveness. He forgives the white oppressors which they imprisoned him for nearly 3decades.
We Ethiopians must and it is a must to forgive each other. Lets forget Meles issue. He is not a problem by himself as long as we unit each other. we think positively for future. we love each other truthfully. We trust each other. We believe that we change our country and took her to great civilization. If people changes positively, the government who are negative cannot stand the power of positive thinkers. It is a natural process that they will vanish. We Ethiopians should do our self/individual then group homework of such thoughts before anything begins.
God Bless our Country/Ethiopia!
Abebe Gelaw’s action against Meles Zenawi on that historic day(18 May, 2012) has turned the tide. It was a breakthrough. It returned millions of Ethiopians who went away from politics, to involve in politics. Now the momentum is so enormous that no one will stop us until the demise of TPLF.
God bless our hero Abebe Gelaw!!!!
Nothing 2be said but tell everybody. Thank you very much.
Mr. Abebe Gelaw, you seem very angry at our prime minister because you were a convict who is wanted in Ethiopia to serve your time for crimes you have committed. If you have guts, you have to face the court in Ethiopia and clear your name then and only then you can talk about the affairs of Ethiopia and Ethiopians. A criminal cannot tell us what we want to hear. As a matter of fact, you are barred from electing and being elected because of your criminal records. Your perception is tainted with bias and thus you have totally ignored journalistic ethics and professionalism in expressing your wishful thinking about the death of the Prime Minister. You should be ashamed of yourself when you exhibit such a selfish motive and tantrum against a sick person. You should have wished him well as a human being and then you should be prepared to present your arguments if you have any political differences. You cannot throw all your axes of assault when the prime mnister is sick as anyone of us are susceptible to be sick and ultimately die. This behavior reveals your personality succinctly. You will revenge and destroy all who are opposed to your views and who are on your way if you get a chance to lead our country. You don’t have a magnanimous heart and you are very narrow minded. You are infected with hatred and you want to impose the will of Amhara supremacy on Ethiopia which is a mother of diverse ethnic goups whose rights are respected and who co-exist peacefully under the watch of Prime Minister Meles. Your sinister idea is very clear to all right-minded Ethiopians who analyse it. Nevertheless, our victory against Amhara hegemony and subjugation is irreversible and unthinkable. We love and respect all Amharas as our Ethiopian brothers and sisters, but they cannot be treated differently under the consitution of Ethiopia. We have equal opportunity to work, live, co-exist and lead our country. There are several well known Amhara leaders under this regime like all others including Oromos and Tigreans, etc. It is all inclusive regime. Our Prime Minister and his party is the only regime who experimented multiparty system in Ethiopian history. We still have a freedom to have opposition parties in Ethiopia who play according to the constitution which guarantees their formation and exercise of their rights. We still have th tennets of freedom of expression and association in Ethiopia under this regime. Therefore, we are very grateful to our government and we want these democratic values and norms to foster and grow incrementally and peacefully with out engaging in any sort of violence. Those who cherish violence as opposed to engaging in peaceful debates are very hasty, selfish, power mongers and don’t even have an experienc of democratization process. First of all, you have to learn how democracy grew gradually in the United States, which is your current host country. It was only few decades ago that wmen and blacks were not able to vote. In fact blacks used to be a property and women were counted as half individual. It took several years to transform America from its dark history of segregation, diiscrimination and dehumanization to the current stage. We have to appreciate our government for ushering equal rghts for women and all ethnic groups who have been systematically dehumanized and discriminated. Our government is protecting and defending our rights from the thugs like you who want to trample our hard won civil liberties. You are opportunists who pray for upheaval and inciting Moslems and Christians to engage in violence to put you in power. That is a dream which never come through in current Ethiopian reality because we have several years of experience of our previous dark history in our country. If you wanted to build on our current achievement and attempt to bring about better conditions in our country then you should not campaign negatively. It will backfire you and only you shout in a wilderness like a crow or like Malema of South Africa. You may have few followers who want to enjoy a luxury of sharing the funds that are funneled to your establishment. We Ethiopians are very smart people and you cannot full us. So I wish our Prime Minister faster recovery and a sound health because he is a real son of Ethiopia who transformed our country politically, socially and economically to the degree that our countries achievement is recognized by its allies and foes. Though you are doing what you are doing to appease your financiers, please respect your journalistic ethnics on any piece you write. You will be ashamed when our Prime Minister resumes his duties very soon. Then you will come up with your story saying he is ressurected by Jesus like Lazarius. May the lord forgive you for your folly and give you patience and wisdom in exercising your journalistic privileges and duties.
Mr. Abebe Gelaw,
You seem very angry at our prime minister because you were a convict who is wanted in Ethiopia to serve your time for crimes you have committed.
