Hailemariam to be sworn in on Friday
(AFP) Hailemariam Desalegn, who was appointed Ethiopia’s acting prime minister on the death of long-time ruler Meles Zenawi last month, will be formally sworn into office on Friday, officials said Wednesday.
“The party council felt that an extraordinary session should be held on Friday… the two officials, the two chairs who
have been appointed, will be sworn in,” said government spokesman Shimeles Kemal, referring to Hailemariam and his deputy.
On Saturday, Hailemariam, 47 and a water engineer by training, was elected to the head of the ruling coalition, the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF).
Education minister Demeke Mekonnen, who was elected deputy chair of the EPRDF, will take over the post of deputy prime minister from Hailemariam.
The EPRDF is made up of four parties, each representing a specific region: Meles’s party the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front, the Oromo Peoples’ Democratic Organisation, the Amhara National Democratic Movement and the South Ethiopian Peoples’ Democratic Movement, the party of Hailemariam. It holds an overwhelming parliamentary majority.

“Only God can Help Muslims From Ourselves”
This is an article from The Toronto Sun news,Wednesday september 19,2012.This is written by Mr Tarek Fatah.
I have taken part of the article for it is useful and fits to the Ethiopian political atmosphere.I am not talking about Muslims. The hot political temperature in the Muslim world because of the film titled “INNOCENCE Of MUsLIMS”.
“When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton tried to calm Muslims Thursday by denouncing the video, she was unwittingly playing along with the ruse the radicals set up.The United States would have been better-off focusing on the only outrage that was of legitimate interest to the American government: lack of respect_shown by a complaisant Egyptian government and other Islamists_for U.S. diplomatic missions.” If it were possible(and I know it’s not),I hope for divine intervention putting my Muslim ummah in a medically induced coma so that the source of this spasmodic convulsion that makes us behave as the world’s most irrational people can be exicised from our souls. For only God can help us Muslims from ourselves.”wrote Mr Tarek Fatah.
“I hope for divine intervention putting my Muslim ummah in a medically induced coma so that the source of this spasmodic convulsion that makes us behave as the world’s most irrational people can be exicised from our souls.”This is my prayer too for my Tigrian brothers and sisters that God put medically induced coma so that the source of this spasmodic covulsion that makes them behave as the world’s most irrational people exicised from their souls.I borrowed Mr Tarek’s words for they best describe the Woyane intellectuals and cadres.
I can’t understand the WOYANES and their supporters.God only knows what is going inside their mind or soul if they have one.I pray for them to be relieved from this evil that leads them to spasmodic convulsion.I think we need to sympathize with this abnormal behaviour that possessed them.Even USA,their partner,is not having the expertise to set them free and live a normal life.
When you cut the head of a chicken and release it immediately it will behave as if it has life.It tries even to run and make certain drama to show it is alive but the reality is it is without the head and there will not be life and rationality.THe dead body can’t deal with the normal situation. The head of WOYANE is cut and the body alone is not going to survive. It will die.It has to take the last breath and go where its head is buried.
The WOYANES have demonstrated who they are when they took two months to organise the funeral festival all over the country. They have shown that they are “the world’s most irrational people” by make the people of Ethiopia weep for two weeks and put the economic activities at a stand still.
Let God release them from this demon that makes them irrational and dumb.
This is the first time you did not mentioned the Tigray people. I think you are getting it now. You will not be won power by hating Tigrayns in Ethiopia. Period. You better understand this.
My comments is still waiting your review and approval. I wonder why you usually delete my comments. You always say that freedom of speech. If you are not even allowed people to post their comments in your website, can you imagine what you will do if you get the power which you desperately need? Sorry, please do not waste your time. If you smart enough, you should think to purse different profession. Trust me, politics is not for you.
I am optimist he will a better PM. Let’s try being optimistic because for 21 years we have been cynical and on each other’s throat. We have no choice but to give him the benefit of the doubt and not jump on him. We have to calibrate our expectations. He does not have much room for maneuver, we need to appreciate the straighjacket he is in. we should demeaning him and call him a poodle. Only time will tell and if we keep insulting we have fact chance of engaging with him and bring about the changes we would like to see.
So I say instead of putting pre conditions for dialogue which would rub the regime and their die hard Aigaiforum type the wrong way, let’s develop a channel of communication. Let’s stop megaphone diplomacy. I suspect the new PM would like to release at least the most prominent prisoners. However he needs to save face, so he will seek our indulgence (and we should grant him) in coming up with some form of “pardon”. To demand immediate unconditional release will take us back to square one and the deadend we are so painfully familiar. So I say let’s develop a channel of communication and try to heal the wounds.
Finally I would like the new PM as a man faith to utter these words after his inauguration tomorrow
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.
Abebe I hope you are willing to give him the benefit of doubt and not succumb to the tyranny of consensus. I always wondered whether the western tactic ( you so adroitly adopt) of challenging our leaders in such an open and hostile way is best suited to our temperament and psychological and cultural make up. We Ethiopians are hyper sensitive to criticisms and saving face is such a big issue. I wonder if Abebe, you could research how non western democratic societies raise difficult issues in non confrontational way and maybe just maybe try a different way.
I dream of a better Ethiopia. Please let’s top the hodam label. It beggars belief that those who served the Dergue are not called hodam but those who served under EPRDF are called Hodam, so let’s work for a better ethiopia
May God Bless our beautiful land
